You may not know this but I am a very crafty person. I'm always thinking of ways to make things I need out of items that I no longer use or just simply don't want anymore. Frugal some might say but Creative is what I call it.
This time of year is my peak for crafts, the mood is just right along with the colors and smells of the holidays.
This post is to show you how to make your own wreath from natural products. Yes I want you to go outside gather leaves and small flexible branches (If your from the south then you should know exactly what I mean when I say a "Hickory/Switch Bush").
Here is what you will need:
- Fresh Hickory's (I had to gather three different times so it really just depends on what size you want the wreath.)
-Metal clothes hanger (open up and bend into a circle, make sure to leave the hanger part at the top and in the middle, this will be used to hang your wreath.)
-Fresh leaves (I pulled mine off of the tree itself, also make sure to leave the stems you will need them a little later.)
-Lacquer (you will need to spray the front and back of the leaves along with your finished wreath and allow to dry.)
-Hot glue gun and extra sticks (I used about three or four sticks.)
1. once you have made your clothes hanger into a circle you will need to start wrapping your twigs around it. Just keep wrapping until the entire hanger is covered.
| just keep wrapping until you get this as a result. 2. I allowed my ring to sit for a few days so it would dry out. (You can skip this step if you would like.) 3. After you have gathered your leaves. Layout Newspaper (Outside) hold the stems of the leaves so that you can twist it from front to back while spraying. (Told you the stems would come in handy =] ) Spray your ring as well so the base will have protection. 4. Allow the lacquer to dry. (about 1 hour) 5. Once dry cut the stems off of the leaves. 6. Begin gluing the leaves around your base. (I only placed hot glue at the bottom of the leaves , draw a line. And then stick to the base. ) No certain order is needed just place the leaves where you see fit until you have the look you desire. 7. My scarecrows were purchased last year at Walmart on clearance for $0.25 a piece. They came on sticks but I broke those so they could look like they were sitting on the wreath. Glue them so they wont fall and your done! |
