Oral Care -- Important tips to remember

Oral care is a very important step in our daily hygiene routines. Do you know how important it is to take care of your teeth? Did you know that over 300 species of normal bacteria live in your mouth? Did you also know that if not taken care of properly these bacteria can cause infections and pain? By taking care of our teeth we can lower the number of bacteria to an “okay” point that will not cause damage to our teeth. For starters by taking care of our teeth we prevent plaque from forming. Plaque is a clear film that builds up on our teeth, when too much plaque builds up the thickness and color changes to a pale yellow. Plaque can cause gingivitis – a gum disease that can make your gums red, swollen and sore. By brushing your teeth twice a day everyday you can help prevent plaque buildup and gingivitis along with cavities and other complications. Cavities are painful spots on teeth that have begun to rot the tooth. If not taken care of properly cavities can become extremely painful and eventually will cause the tooth to break or chip away. Here is an amazing info graphic with great tips that may help with properly taking care of your teeth:

Dental hygiene is very important, teach your children early and remember to set a good example as well. Make a family event of it every night before bed and every morning after breakfast. The kids will enjoy the time spent with you and to make it even more fun you could also make up a funny dance that you and them can do while brushing your teeth.  Just remember to brush daily.
